Vietnam IT Week, an initiation of Vietnam Association for Information processing (VAIP), has been organized since its establishment in 1988. IT Week, the annually traditional festival among Vietnam information and technology circle, is considered to be one of the regional and international event focusing on the publicity of Information and Technology. It is also interested and highly supported by Vietnam information and technology circle.
IT Week was organized every two years from 1988 to 1994. From 1994 on, it is organized yearly at the biggest Centers for Information and Technology in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City including Seminar on Management - Science - Technology, IT Exhibition, and Contest for young IT Talents, IT and IT-related products. From 2002, Vietnam IT Gold Cup was awarded to IT participants and Vietnam ICT Gala was organized in order to raise the honor of enterprises, individuals, teams having made great contribution to the development and application of Information and Technology in Vietnam. Ten thousands of Vietnamese and foreign turns of visitors are attracted by the annual IT Week.
With condensed and practical IT seminars oriented by policies of Vietnamese Government, IT Week has always witnessed great success. In which the Information and Technology Exhibition drew a good deal of attention from the young as latest products applied modern technology and science are displayed by local and international participants.
In 2003, IT Week was connected with ASOCIO Summit. 2005 IT Week took place along with the organization of 2005 Meeting of ASEAN Telecommunication Ministers and Information Technology (TELMIN-5) which is the first time hosted by Vietnam.
This year, the celebration of the 15 years anniversary of the Vietnam IT Week, all the IT Week’s activities are ICT events will take place on the threshold of the APEC Summit 2006, Vietnam will host the APEC Summit 2006.




BRIEF INTRODUCTION ON IT WEEK BACKGROUND

1st IT Week was jointly organized in Hanoi in 1998 by Prepared Dept for VAIP establishment and National Committee of Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology now).
2nd IT Week was held in 1990 in Ho Chi Minh City, and IT Expo with 55 booths on 550 m2 total area was attended by more than 30.000 visitors, IT seminars with 500 turns of people participants.
2nd IT Week was held in Hanoi in 1992. More than 50.000 visitors are attracted to IT Expo and 4000 attendants to the seminars.
4th IT Week was held in Ho Chi Minh City in Aug, 1994 with the event title: “Vietnamese Informatics – Co-operation and Development”.
5th IT Week was held in Oct 1995 in Hanoi. Exhibition area comprised of 194 booths, 48 of which are from overseas and 146 of which are from local companies and authorities attracted more than 60.000 visitors.
6th IT Week was held in Oct 1996 at KASATI Exhibition Center in Ho Chi Minh City with the main theme: “Developing Vietnam’s IT Potentials”. The IT Expo with 174 booths, covering the area of 4000 m2 was designed professionally and perfectly.
7th IT Week with the main theme: “Internet/Intranet – Organization, Exploitation and Management”. The IT Expo with 150 international – standard showcases, covering an area of 4000 m2 was attended by 60.000 visitors.
8th IT Week took place on 11-15/10/1998 in Hanoi and the main theme of which is: “Vietnamese IT – Development and Integration”. The IT Expo covered the total area of 4000 m2 and 150 international-standard showcases, some of which were linked with Internet for the 1st time. Approximately 60.000 people attended the fair.
The 9th IT Week, held in 1999 in Hanoi, concentrating on the theme: “Vietnamese IT- The new era” was attended by 90.000 visitors and 120 key speakers who are well-known scientists at the conference.
The 10th IT Week was held in 2001 in Hanoi under the theme” Vietnam’s IT: For the sake of Development and Integration”. The 4000 m2 exhibition area accommodated a total of 194 showcases. About 90.000 people attended the exhibition.
The 11th IT Week with the main theme: “Computerization on State Administration – the gateway to an E-government”. The 4000 m2 exhibition area accommodated about 200 showcases and drew the attention and interest of about 120.000 people.
The 12th IT Week was held in Hanoi from Oct 28th to Dec 2nd, 2003 under the main theme: “Integration and Development”. The IT Expo with more than 200 showcases, covering the total area of 2000m2 was considered as one of IT Expo with high quality and well organized.
The 13th IT Week was held in Hanoi from 15th -19th Oct, 2004 under the event title “Towards the e-Government”. Space in square 4000m2 with 200 international standard booths, lured more than 120.000 turns of visitors.
The 14th IT Week was held in Hanoi from September 26th – October 02, 2005 with the title “Promoting Online Applications & Services”; . 2005 IT Week took place in the same period with the 2005 Meeting of ASEAN Telecommunication Ministers and Information Technology (TELMIN-5). Lured more than 135.000 turns of visitors.
The 15th IT Week was held in Hanoi from October 26th –30, 2006 with the title ““ Vietnam ICT WTO accession – Opportunities & Challenges”, this event took place on the threshold of the APEC Summit 2006. Lured more than 150.000 turns of visitors.
